i want to start by saying i will not participate in discussion here about my resignation as a moderator at jwn.. simon please consider this as my resignation from that position.. i have been posting on this board for almost 12 years.
i know some of you a lot, others a little and some not very well at all.
i have remained here for those of you who have needed support as you make the transition out of the wts, who needed someone to listen to your experiences of abuse at the hands of jehovah's witnesses, and to both laugh and cry with you as you progress out of the watchtower society.. we know that we have all experienced the cruelty of abuse of one kind or another.
Unfortunately that wouldn't be the first time cedars has tried to lock down threads and give moderators strongly worded advice. His 'Patterson' article thread is a perfect example of that. The point had been made by several posters that the WTS wasn't likely to physically lose the Patterson facility to the Contis as cedars had claimed in bold terms in his article, as well as not necessarily being a sign they (WTS) simply didn't have the ready cash, but was rather a legal move to avoid paying them a lump sum of cash before the appeal process was completed. cedars interpreted this as an attack upon him and the Contis. What was particularly shameful was that he posted not one, but TWO letters from the Contis urging people to stop 'attacking' cedars, and how reading these 'attacks' on cedars was making them very upset. You can find these exchanges here:
and here:
He showed no hesitation in using the Conti's suffering as a way to stop what he felt were attacks against him on the thread. He also strongly suggested that the site owner was not properly moderating the forum by not having any mod in different times zones other than US/Canada to allow for 24 hour moderation.
The position cedars put LL in with the AAWA thread was along the same lines. He'd always go to great lengths to shut down discussion that was adverse to his position, and not surprisingly, is the same way the AAWA is run.
Interestingly enough, there are plans for a forum at the AAWA.

I don't even have to imagine how many 'inappropriate comments' are removed, users deleted, and threads will be locked there. At least cedars probably wont feel compelled to use the Contis suffering as a way to dominate a discussion there. There will be a convenient button for him to push, which is exactly how he wants it.

*lost* - Read Richard Kelly's article about the history of AAWA on cedars' site jwsurvey.org:

Lee Marsh, who has qualifications and experience in the field of support work, joined as an Advisory Board member on March 31, 2013 – bringing the total number of board members to eight. Lee will lead the Support Team, and we are grateful to be adding her skills and experience to our project.
LL was the last one to join, shortly before AAWA was launched.
really the whole thing is ludicrious but it is hilarious and sad at the same time to see grown people arguing about weather there will be cars, planes, eat meat, what about fish, etc in a place as imaginary as oz, yet to them it is reality.. the teaching of a paradise earth was so illogical it really was the first thing that started me on the path to waking up.
just the thought that someone could greet their beloved spouse who had died only to come to the realization that they could never be together again struck me as so cruel, i didnt want to live there even if it was all true.. i have heard jws say they think we might be able to fly, read minds since we will be able to use 100% and some seem to think life would be an endless vacation, with modern conveniences with no thought to all the processes and work that goes into something simple like a pencil.
i love the article jwfacts has on the flaws of any theory or teaching of paradise earth.. what are some things you have heard discussed/argued in car groups, gatherings etc when you were in?.
People like John Lennon and Gandhi would be resurrected as part of the 'unrighteous' because they loved peace, but were never given a chance to hear the JW message. It's just wrong to picture those two studying with Witnesses under the ever-present gaze of lions and baskets of bountiful fruit.

That entire exchange reflected more on cedars' character and his own personal playbook than on LL. It is evident that she got in the middle of it at cedars' behest. It was a low-down and sneaky thing to do on someone else's board, and his reputation has suffered greatly since. Though LL probably could have used better judgment by telling cedars to appeal to the site owner or another mod not affiliated with AAWA to avoid a conflict of interest, he should be ashamed of himself for involving a woman with great personal integrity in such a back-handed act.
LL's decision to leave was hers and hers alone. cedars didn't make it for her, and it would be an insult to LL to assume so. Which isn't to say that he didn't chime in anyway with his always over-bearing opinion regarding her being a mod on a site he that viewed as enemy territory. I wouldn't want to be associated with such an unprofessional crybaby as the organisation's president, but LL obviously views it differently. We should all take her resignation at face value and wish her the best in her endeavours.
(if you're tired of aawa threads, please be aware, this is an aawa thread.).
sadly - there are people who have been negatively affected by the aawa, and like other organizations, the aawa made protecting it's name and reputation a priority over helping and protecting the people it should have been trying to help.
like other organizations, they won't discuss the issues publicly with the community, insisting instead on discussions behind closed doors and "getting the names" of people expressing concerns.. .
Try watering the thread and not adding so much lime.
if cedars and simon had a debate about how to run a website and lady lee were the moderator, who would win this debate?.
That's like hearing Colonel Sanders is taking on Napoleon in a pitched battle.
Don't patronise me!
uncensored discussions and information for anyone interested in the advocates for awareness of watchtower abuses or 'aawa' http://aawa.co/ (previously known as "the association of anti-watchtower activists http://jwactivists.org/) and how it's handled and responded to privacy issues and put people at risk:.

That's precisely the point. The minute I saw that they were actively soliciting donations, I knew that they would (and should) have to adhere to higher standards than the 'wild-west' of JWN as one of their directors called it. How are these donations being spent? According to their charter, donors have a right to see a full accounting of "a summary of how donated funds have been spent on a quarterly basis" according to their Mission Statement (See Article 6 "Financial Transparency"). I hope they realise that any one who donates even just a couple of dollars is entitled to see this quarterly report, and could sue them in court should they not disclose this as promised. One would certainly hope the president himself is not subpoenaed to testify! That would involve some serious travel expenses. Oh wait, will those travel expenses be covered by the donations they bring in? These are the questions that need to be asked. It had all the appearance from the very beginning to me of an ex-JW fraternity that would fly in from all over the world for clandestine meetings, giving a speech in a Manhattan hotel conference room in the hope of gathering media attention, and having a hearty meal at a trendy restaurant afterwards. It's not unreasonable or 'bashing' to openly ask if the donations would be spent on any such expenses. Finally, the president himself has been open about his career in ex-JW activism. A few months back he stated that he was writing a book, and should a publisher not pick it up, that he fully intended to self-publish. Does he intend on using AAWA funds to do this? Maybe I am wrong, and they have or had no intention on doing this. But these are fair questions. If I or anyone else here launched a site, asked for donations for a non-profit venture all the while letting everyone know I was dead set on publishing a book, the first in a series of exposés, would people be right to question motives? The president himself stated definitively that he was seeking an 'advance' for his publishing efforts and would use such funds to travel all over the world to meet with people. Where do the president's personal ambitions end and where does the AAWA's start? I'm finding an incredibly blurry line between those two, if they are not indeed one in the same.
i believe that this site, jwn, serves many purposes.
.
some are here almost, out of need.. others are here because they want to know the latest in watchtower world.. still others come here for the entertainment.. why do you frequent this place?
Because the place just makes me laugh sometimes. To me that is the best kind of 'support' a site can offer.
